MDA's satellite subsystems support innovative communications technologies in space

Quebec, QC- MDA, a Maxar Technologies company (formerly MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.) (NYSE: MAXR; TSX: MAXR) announced today that it has signed a multi-million dollar contract withOHB System AG(OHB) to provide fine pointing for solar arrays and tracking antennas for theHeinrich Hertz communications satellite. MDA’s innovative subsystems have a high level of functional integration, which optimizes mass and volume, and provides the satellite with more significant cost savings. The satellite will employ MDA’s innovative subsystem to continuously position the solar arrays as well as the satellite’s pointing and tracking antennas.

The Heinrich Hertz satellite is a national communications satellite program for the German Space Agency, DLR, exploring and testing new space technologies to determine, among other things, how broadband can result in higher data speeds for mobile final users. It also carries a payload for military communications purposes. OHB System AG is the Prime Contractor.

"MDA is a trusted partner of OHB in our goal to meet our customers’ expectations. What is more, we had already contracted MDA for a very similar subsystem and had very good experience in terms of quality, flexibility and adherence to schedules," says Dieter Birreck, Heinrich Hertz Program Manager at OHB System.

“MDA enables leading-edge customers and partners to do remarkable work honing their innovations and delivering solutions to build a better world,” says Mike Greenley, group president of MDA. “Fueling economic growth through product exports worldwide on both GEO and LEO communications satellites is central to the future growth story of MDA.”
